- Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) – VPI is the oldest and largest health insurance provider for dogs and cats in the states. VPI does not have a senior policy but it will ensure pets of any age. However, premiums go up as the pet ages. VPI is available nationwide.
- PetCare Insurance – Offers QuickCare Senior coverage for elderly cats or dogs. This coverages will cover cancer, seizure, and heart problems commonly seen in elderly animals. They are affiliated with Petco and Petfinder.com which allows them to offer special policies for special situations. PetCare is not available in all states so check to see if your state has PetCare.
What To Look For In Pet Insurance Providers
- Cut off age for eligibility – make sure your animal is within the age range in order to be eligible for the insurance.
- What the insurance plan covers – most insurance plans only cover illness and accidents. If you want your policy to cover specifics like vaccinations, spay-neuter, teeth cleaning and flea treatments, additional coverage is required, but investigate your pet insurance policies to see if their plan has those included.
- The cost of the annual premium
- The amount of the deductible – make sure to ask if the deductible is calculated for a per-year basis or a per-incident basis.
